June 4th, 2008 marked an evening of celebration as Vanderheyden Residential & Community Services for Youth, Individuals and Families recognized 175 years of Vanderheyden heroes at a reception held at the Rensselaer County Historical Society. Since late last year, Vanderheyden has been celebrating 175 year anniversary of providing services to the youth in the Capital District .
The Vanderheyden Heroes recognized during the evening included: Dr. Charles Bessey, Dr. Dorothy Brown, The Cluett Family, Richard P. and Betsey Amelia Howard Hart, Italian Community Center of Troy, Polly Freihofer Mason, The Mooradian Family, Edward "Ebbie" Pattison, James Robison, The Robison Family, and Richard L. Thomas. To learn how these heroes contributed to Vanderheyden through the years, click here to view the program.
One of the highlights of the evening was the showing of a documentary DVD, produced by WMHT, which tells the story of Vanderheyden since its incorporation in 1833 to the present day. Also chronicled in the DVD is the success story of a Vanderheyden resident who describes her experiences at Vanderheyden over the years and how those experiences have shaped her into the person she is today. |
